SMOKE-FREE MANAGEMENT PLAN

The ACT Government has introduced new Smoke-Free areas at Canberra Stadium from 23 February 2008. There will be a six-week grace period, which will end on 31 March 2008.
The changes mean smoking is prohibited:
- Within seated, thoroughfare, entrances and concourse areas (basically all areas confined within the built structures); and
- Within five (5) metres of all entrances into buildings, grandstands or the concourse level.
Signage has been installed in all areas at Canberra Stadium informing patrons where smoking is and is not permitted.
Smoking will be allowed only in the outer grounds, i.e. forecourts, with bins to extinguish cigarettes provided at signed strategic locations,
Non-smoking areas will be monitored to enforce the Smoke-Free message.
Car parks and grounds are excluded under these changes.
A six-week grace period from 23 February until 31 March 2008 is to allow patrons to understand the new changes. Patrons will be advised by Canberra Stadium staff to move into the permitted smoking areas. Patrons who light up in Smoke-Free areas will be asked to extinguish their cigarette. Patrons that do not comply with the second request shall be removed from the venue.
From 1 April 2008, patrons who light up in Smoke-Free areas will be asked to extinguish their cigarette. Patrons that do not comply with the request shall be removed from the venue.
How will Canberra Stadium patrons be informed of the new restrictions?
Canberra Stadium will display signage advising patrons where smoking is and is not permitted. Smoke-Free messages will be actively advertised by the ground announcer and through audio-visual messages.
